LUECHAUER, Bernice (nee Schawe) age 82 of Hamilton passed away suddenly on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. She was born February 9, 1932 the daughter of Mark and Elizabeth (Doerpers) Schawe. On February 14, 1953, she married Walter H. Luechauer. Bernice was an active member of Mercy Fairfield Auxiliary. She worked diligently to raise money during the annual golf outing to benefit Mercy Hospital. She looked forward to the monthly UFCW retirement meetings, Christmas party, and the many trips they took together. Her competitive spirit and love of sharing time with family and friends were evident when playing golf, board games, and cards. She enjoyed playing cards with her high school friends of more than sixty years and with the Sterling Silvers. She was also a loyal member of Notre Dame Alumni.
Survivors include her husband, Walter; five children, Linda Flegal, Gary (Diane) Luechauer, Debbie (Bill) Miller, Sandy (Doug) Stitzel, and Donna (Mark) Szuch. She was the proud grandparent of Jennifer (Bryan) Chase, Kari (Michael) Sams, Amanda Miller, Katie and Eric Luechauer, and Nicholas, Alex and Sydney Szuch; great-grandma to Gabriel Sams.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mark and Elizabeth Schawe; mother-in-law Florence Luechauer; sister-in-law, Alice Pfirrman; son-in-law, Alan R. Flegal.
Prayers will be offered at 12:15PM Saturday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00PM Saturday in St. Peter in Chains Church. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 10:00AM-12:15PM Saturday in the funeral home.
