GORDON, Betty Jean, age 84 of Dayton, Ohio died Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at 10:08 a.m. at Walnut Creek Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was daughter of Mrs. Mildred (Reiff) Cearley and Mr. John Cearley, Sr. on December 14, 1931 in Hamilton, Ohio.
She received her certificate of confirmation from Reverend Victor H. Schoen, of the Evangelical and Reformed Church of Hamilton, Ohio after confessing Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on the 25th of March, 1945.
Mrs. Gordon attended Hamilton Public Schools and was a graduate of Hamilton High class of 1949. Following her graduation, she was employed for many years as a secretary at Estate Stove, Duvall Electric, Mosler Safe Company of Hamilton, Prudential Insurance and Crosley Broadcasting WLWT Channel 5 of Cincinnati, and as an executive secretary for Rike's Department Store of Dayton Ohio.
Her main hobby involved painting and art classes during the 1990s. A few of her paintings were exhibited at Sinclair Community College.
Betty was the wife of the late George Martin Gordon, Jr. and is survived by her three children: Deborah Charlotte (Steve) McDaniel, Mark Andrew (Charlotte) Gordon and a son by a previous marriage, Steven Richard (Julie) Greenup; a brother William D. Cearley; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, John Cearley, Jr. and Raymond Cearley.
A special thanks to nephew Raymond "Chuck" Cearley for his help with final arrangements, as well as appreciation to the staff of Walnut Creek Nursing Home for their care of Betty Jean Gordon in her final days.
Graveside Burial Service will be at Greenwood Cemetery (Section 11) of Hamilton, Ohio on Saturday, Jan. 31st,2015 at 10:00 a.m.
