BRIEDE, Donald A. age 85 of Fairfield, died Monday, December 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on January 21, 1923 the son of Albert and Frieda (Baumeister) Briede and was a 1940 graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School. Mr. Briede served in the US Marines during World War II from 1942 through 1946. On June 19, 1948 in St. Martin Church, Cheviot, he married Dorothy A. Littelmann. A thirty-eight year employee of General Motors, he retired as a Tool and Die General Foreman. He was a charter member of Sacred Heart Church, an active member in the construction of the original church, and was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. Mr. Briede played a key role in the establishment of Fairfield Little League and Babe Ruth, served as president as well as actively coaching and umpiring over a twenty-five year span. Don was one of the original founders of Sacred Heart CYO basketball, football, and baseball. He was also an avid fisherman and sports fan.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 60 years, Dottie; seven children, Donald Jr. (Carol) of Indianapolis, Indiana; Deborah (Marc) Schurger, of Kingsport, Tennessee; Tony (Charmaine) of Fairfield, Ohio; David (Linda) of Lansing, Michigan; Charles (Jami) of Sweetser, Indiana; James (Melinda) of Hamilton, Ohio; Joseph (Gina) of Cincinnati, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rita Menchen and Helen O'Donohoe, both of Hamilton.
Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Jim, and Mark; two sisters, Jean Bodner; Naomi Weldon.
Prayers will be offered at 10:00am Friday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am Friday in Sacred Heart Church. Entombment will be in St. Stephen Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5-8:00pm Thursday in the Funeral Home. Donations may be made to Sacred Heart Church or Badin High School.
