Obituary

Dorothy Louise Bokeno, age 96, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009.

Dorothy was born in Punxatawney, Pennsylvania on Christmas Day, 1912 to Mary L. (Hafner) and Edward D. Wetzel. After the family moved to Ohio she was sent to live with a great aunt in Cincinnati near the old Crosley Field. Many of her memories were of the time spent around and at the Reds ballpark. She remained a devoted Reds fan all of her life and enjoyed watching the games on television.

Dorothy was schooled in Cincinnati and Hamilton. At the age of 16, she married Ralph Bokeno in Immaculate Conception Church in Newport, Kentucky. After 46 years of marriage, Ralph died in August, 1975.

Dorothy was employed by Wilmers Department Store in Hamilton for many years and was also a nanny for many residents of the Rolling Hills area in Fairfield. She was a charter member of Sacred Heart Church and enjoyed traveling and visiting her children and grandchildren.

Besides her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a sister, Melva McDaniel, two sons-in-law, Jack Plinneke and Dan Kostomay and an infant grandson, John Bokeno.

Her children are Ralph, Jr. (Lois) Bokeno, Geraldine Plinneke, Rita (Bobby) Lakes and Connie (William "Tobe")Kostomay-Frank all of Fairfield.

She was the proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren: Michael (Margo) Bokeno of Murray, KY; Kevin (Kathy) Bokeno of Winston Salem, NC; Mary Beth (Forrest) Brown of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Thomas (Lisa) Bokeno and Dan (Kathy) Bokeno of Fairfield; Mary Ellen (Larry) Parker of Port Orange, FL; JoAnn Bruewer of Fairfield; Jami Plinneke of Petersburg, AK; Greg (Carla) Lakes of Missoula, MT; Doug Lakes of Minneapolis, MN; Sharon Lakes of Fairfield; Daniel August (Jill) Kostomay of Sammamish, WA; Deidre (Greg) Wimmers and Denise Kostomay of Fairfield.

She also leaves 25 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

She is survived by a sister, Clara (Sis) Okruhlica of Fairfield, OH.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30 am Monday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., Hamilton, OH followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am Monday in Sacred Heart Church, 400 Nilles Road, Fairfield, Ohio. Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial park.
