Obituary

UHL, Edna M., age 98, a Hamilton native and longtime Fairfield resident, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, at Westover Retirement Community, where she had lived for several years.
A graduate of Hamilton High School, Edna worked for five decades with her husband, Dr. Russell Uhl, in his dental practice in the Rentschler Building in downtown Hamilton.
She kept track of appointments, did the paperwork and, instrument tray in hand, assisted "Doc" as he drilled away next to a window that overlooked bustling High Street.
Russell Uhl, who died in 1993, was a big-game hunter, and Edna often accompanied him on expeditions to Alaska, Africa, India and Cheyenne, Wyo. The memories of those distant places were always fresh in her mind.
The Uhls' home on Pleasant Avenue contained a room that held Russell's trophies -- including a towering mounted brown bear, a tiger, a lion and a polar bear that sat familiarly in the upper window and was illuminated at night by revolving colored lights.
Edna enjoyed traveling to homes of her relatives and loved to take the train to Chicago for an afternoon of shopping at Marshall Field's. In Hamilton, Elder-Beerman was a favorite haunt.
A generous, pleasant-natured woman, she enjoyed holiday family dinners at the Golden Lamb in Lebanon, but was also grateful for occasional outings to Frisch's or Bob Evans. Food was a passion.
In later years, with her cane and large dark wraparound glasses, she was a familiar sight to passing motorists on Pleasant as she walked her cherished poodle Tippy.
The daughter of Charles and Emma Wagner, she had two brothers, Walter and Buddy, and is survived by a sister, Helen Bergman of Boulder, Colo.
Other survivors include nephews Dick Wagner of Key West, Fla., Gary Wagner and his wife Pat of Morton, Ill., and Kim Bergman of Tucson, Ariz.; a niece, Sherry Wohletz and her husband Jim of Denver; great nieces Lindsey Wagner of St. Louis and Krista Edwards of Mesa, Ariz.; great nephews David Wagner of Lake Worth, Fla., and Jamie, Ayron and Alexander Wohletz of Denver; relatives, Barbara Uhl Stewart, John Hopkins, Michael John Hopkins, various loving cousins, and a dear friend, Phyllis Rommel of Hamilton.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, November 6, 2006 at Miltonville Cemetery. Zettler Funeral Home, serving the family. www.zettlerfunmeralhome.com
