PROESCHEL-HIME, Elizabeth (Betty), passed away on February 14, 2007 at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. Betty was 104 years old. For the past several years Betty resided at Sunrise Assisted Living of Hamilton. Betty was born in Fairfield Township on December 28, 1902, the daughter of Algernon and Cora Payne McCormick. She was educated at Hamilton Business College and worked for various law firms throughout Hamilton. On April 30, 1924 she married Elmer A. Proeschel and together, in 1933, they established Proeschel Funeral Home on Main Street, Hamilton where Betty was co-owner of the business. They ran their business together until Elmer's death in 1970. Betty and Elmer had one daughter, Patricia Ann, who preceded Betty in death in 1993. In 1965, Patricia and husband Marc C. Crawford joined the business, Proeschel-Crawford Funeral Home.
In 1975, she married George W. Hime of Dayton, Ohio. They enjoyed going on trips together, playing board games and spending time with friends and family. George preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher for 25 years and sang in the choir for 30 years. Betty also enjoyed many clubs, as she was a member of the Progressive Literary Club, 500 Club and a life-long member of the YWCA. She was also an active member of Eastern Star.
She enjoyed playing music on the piano and organ. She also took pleasure in knitting, crochet, sewing, playing bridge, and involvement in the church. She enjoyed reading and writing poems, the Bible, and various other religious books.
She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; Orville P., Sydney, William A., Edwin E. McCormick, two sisters, Mary Stephan and Mildred McGuilliard.
She leaves behind three grandchildren; Douglas S. (Teresa) Crawford, of Fairfield Township, Marcia A. (Robert) Dennett, of Fairfield, and David W. (Julie) Crawford, of Hamilton. She also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Andrew and Joseph Crawford, Marc and Kristina Dennett, and Sarah and Thomas Crawford. She also leaves behind one great great grandchild, Alexis Crawford.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday in the Proeschel-Crawford-Zettler Funeral Home, 547 Main Street, Hamilton, Ohio, with Reverend Daniel Snider officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am Monday, at the Funeral Home. Burial and a brief service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery.
