Obituary

Elnora Pettit Stone, beloved wife of the late James A. Stone, passed away peacefully on July 9 at Mason Christian Village, Mason, Ohio of complications from congestive heart failure. She was 89.

Mrs. Stone was a long-time resident of Akron, Ohio. Following the death of her husband last year, Mrs. Stone moved to the Cincinnati area to be closer to her nephew, Scott Lindsay, and his family.

Born in Hamilton, Ohio on July 27, 1919 to Ina and Casper Pettit, Mrs. Stone graduated from Hamilton High School. She married James Stone on August 2, 1946. They moved to northern Ohio, eventually settling on Tyrone Street in Akron, their home for over 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. Stone were devoted to one another and celebrated 62 happy years of marriage.

Mrs. Stone was a 30 year employee of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. She also faithfully served a number of organizations. Mrs. Stone was a member of Church of the Master in Akron and held both local and district offices for United Methodist Women. She joined Eastern Star in 1964 and as a member of The Falls Chapter #245 (Ellestar) proudly served as Past Matron, Deputy Grand Matron, and Chapter Secretary, a job she truly loved. She also served as a Stan Hywet Hall Manor House Interpreter Volunteer for many years. Mrs. Stone kept a notebook of facts and figures so that she would be able to accurately interpret the house and its interior to the guests on her tours. She was also an avid reader and kept a list of all the books she had read.

Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother, Edward, and sister, Margaret Lindsay. Survivors include her brothers, Gene, Robert and Melvin, and numerous nieces and nephews including her nephew and niece-in-law, Scott and Connie Lindsay, and nieces Lauren Lindsay Benoit and Sue Gambrell-Peace. She leaves many devoted friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the chapel of Mason Christian Village, 411 Western Row Road, Mason, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am with a service following at 11am.
