Obituary

Erick Francis Urbaniak, age 48 of Fairfield, OH, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Hospice of Cincinnati. He was born in Toledo, OH, the son of Dennis and Mary (Perzynski) Urbaniak.

Attending Blessed Sacrament Grade School and St. Francis de Sales High School in Toledo, OH he discovered a love of German language and culture. This led him to study German for the rest of his life, first at Xavier University and then earning his masters and doctorate at the University of Cincinnati. Along the way, he passionately cheered for the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, Xavier Musketeers, San Francisco 49ers and Bundesliga Soccer. Meeting his wife, Beth, through a mutual friend in college, they began a love-filled life of over 25 years together. Together, they brought two amazing and resilient children into the world, Emma and Oliver.

He loved his family tremendously, visiting Disney World, and everything Star Wars. Erick appreciated a well timed dad joke and loved coaching his kids’ teams and being involved in a variety of afterschool activities.

A lifelong teacher, Dr. Urbaniak was a beloved member of multiple school teaching staffs. He influenced and impacted countless lives during his time in the Forest Hills School District. He helped create an infectious culture of positivity and curiosity in both his students and his colleagues. Erick will be remembered for bringing the German language and culture to life, and also for developing strong relationships and connections.

He is survived by his parents; his wife, Elizabeth Bavis; his children, Emma and Oliver; his brother, Michael (Megan) Urbaniak; niece and nephews Felicity, Luke, Jude, Brayden and Austin; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 5:00-7:00pm at the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at 10:30am at Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield.
