Obituary

TENDAM, Ferd, age 80, of Hamilton, died Thursday, May 4, 2006 in Hospice of Hamilton. He was born on Dec. 11th, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan to Ferdinand and Helen (Appenzeller) Tendam. He was a lifelong resident of Lindenwald. Ferd could often be seen visiting with neighbors and friends during his many walks along the familiar streets. He received his diploma from Hamilton High School, in 1943.

In March 1944, Ferd enlisted in the Army and he received an honorable discharge in Sept. of 1945. While in the Army, during WW II, he served in Leyte, the Philippines, and Okinawa. His decorations included the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal.

On July 5th, 1947 he was united in marriage with Phyllis (Rommel) and they enjoyed 47 years together. She preceded him in death on May 9th, 1994.

Ferd spent 4O years working for the United States Postal Service, retiring in Feb. of 1988. Many of those years he could be seen, behind the window at the Lindenwald branch of the Post Office, chatting with old friends and making new ones. He will be fondly remembered by many.

He loved all kinds of sports, especially bowling and soft ball. Ferd also took great pleasure in being a spectator, for his grandsons many activities. He was an active member of VFW Post 1069, the AMVETS, and Widow and Widowers. He belonged to the Lindenwald United Methodist Church. He will be most remembered for his love of his family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter Carol (Dennis) Wolffer; and two beloved grandsons, Chad (Danielle) and Craig (Shelley) Wolffer; sisters-in-laws, Ruth Hensler and Vivian Brill (Don); many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Millie Ante and Dan Sheehan.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Monday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., with Pastor Barry Burns officiating, followed by burial in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be from 5-8:00PM Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Hamilton at Sunrise where Ferd and his family were lovingly cared for or the Children's Hospital.
