"Red" Dakin
October 31, 1936 – November 15, 2025
Gerald R. "Red" Dakin of Franklin, Ohio passed away Saturday November 15, 2025. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on October 31, 1936 the son of Joseph and Marguerite (Powers) Dakin and was a 1955 graduate of Fenwick High School. He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Middletown, Ohio. Mr. Dakin was a maintenance worker for ARMCO Steel for 27 years, retiring in 1999. Gerald earned his HAM radio license in 1955 and was a past president of the Hamilton Amateur Radio Club W8CCI. His call letters were W8ULC. He was involved in Butler County Civil Defense and was a Red Cross volunteer.
Survivors include, two children, Michelle Vaughn, of Hamilton, Ohio and Shawn (Joanie) Dakin of New Miami, Ohio; 4 grandchildren, David Allan (Ellen) Vaughn, Lindsey Vaughn, Faith Dakin and Shawn Dakin II.
Besides his wife Marilyn (Boehm) Dakin, he was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Dakin in 2021; 2 brothers; 1 sister; son-in-law, David Vaughn.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00PM Tuesday November 25, 2025 in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Hamilton, OH 45014. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00PM Tuesday prior to the memorial service.
