SMITH, Gordon W. age 94 of Hamilton died Saturday, June 15, 2013, in Fort Hamilton Hospital. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on February 2, 1919, the son of David M. and Inez (Hicks) Smith. He was a 1937 graduate of Hamilton High School and attended the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering. On January 4, 1947, in the Lindenwald United Methodist Church, he married Margaret Eileen Overholts, and she preceded him in death on July 20, 2009. Mr. Smith served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII with the 455th Bomb Group, 741 Bomb Squadron based in Cerignola, Italy. Gordon had worked for Black – Clawson and was Senior Design Engineer for Western States, retiring in 1999. He was an active member of the Cerignola Connection veterans group.
Survivors include his daughter, Diane M. (Dan) White of Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Abbie (Jeff) Blume of Mason; great grandchild, Gracie Blume.
Besides his wife, Margaret Eileen, he was also preceded in death by his son, Scott W. Smith on July 25, 2012; and a brother, David V. Smith.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Friday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. with Pastor Aaron Phillips officiating followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
