HUNTER, Helen Jean age 88 passed away on September 3, 2012, at Doverwood Village. She was born in Fairfield, Ohio on her parents' farm on Hunter Road (now Harbin Park) on April 27, 1924, the daughter of Robert Emery and Amy Elizabeth Hunter and lived there until 1967. A lifelong resident of Fairfield, she attended Fairfield Township schools beginning in the 1930, helped her mother with farm duties, and graduated from Fairfield Township High School in 1942. Upon graduation, she started work as a secretary at the Champion Paper and Fiber Co. in Hamilton and attended night school at Butler County Business College for nine months in 1944. After completing that course, she went to work as administrative secretary for the Butler County Board of Education in 1945 and remained there for 45 years retiring in 1990. An avid reader, she was known as "Honey" to her nieces and nephews. She served as treasurer of the Pleasant Run Presbyterian Church, which included her great-grandparents, William Noble and Esther Symmes Hunter, among its founders.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Ruth Hunter and Ruth Gregory; a cousin, Joan Schmutzler; nieces, Linda (Randy) Kerka and Karen (Michael) Baum; nephews, Robert (Margie) Hunter and Greg (Jill) Hunter; two great-nieces and four great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Clarence, Walter, and Eugene Hunter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Online register book available at www.zettlerfuneralhome.com
