Obituary

GEORGE, Henry S., Age 88 passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Hospice of Hamilton. He was born April 13, 1921 in Barnstable, Massachusetts, to Anthony and Helen George. He graduated from Barnstable High School and Wilberham Academy. On October 25, 1947 he married Dorothy Thomas at St. Ann's Church. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Chief Petty Officer, the U.S. Maritime Service and U.S. Merchant Marines. He belonged to the P.A.C, Forty Club, City of Hamilton Old Timers, P.E.R.I, I.B.E.W. and the V.F.W. He managed and coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Advanced Babe Ruth for 25 years. He worked as an electrician for the City of Hamilton for 30+ years, retiring as an electrical foreman in 1983. He loved sports, watching his children/grandchildren participate in sports, walking, his bountiful vegetable garden and spending time with his family to whom he was totally committed.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59+ years Dorothy George, his parents Anthony and Helen George, a brother Harold George, and a sister Rosamond Tolley. He is survived by four children: Mike (Sandi) George of Martinez CA, Lynne (Herman) Newton of Trenton, Tom (Debbie) George of Winchester TN, and Donna (Dick) Fiehrer of Fairfield; twelve grandchildren: Jeff George, Jenna George, Archie Wells, Theresa Wells, David Byrd, Duane Byrd, Carrie George, Jeff Fiehrer, Todd Fiehrer, Jill Fiehrer, Tony Fiehrer and Ty Fiehrer; twelve great grandchildren: Zachary Coburn, Caleb Wells, Joshua Wells, Katelyn Wells, Sabrina Stockton, Amber Gill, Sarah Byrd, Emma Byrd, Casey Byrd, Justis Byrd, Ben Fiehrer and Luke Fiehrer; and two devoted sisters: Madeline Perry and Helen Andrews currently residing in Cape Cod, MA.

The family would like to express special thanks to Hospice of Hamilton for the exceptional care they gave our wonderful Dad. Dad, you are gone but will live on in our memories forever.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30am Tuesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10am Tuesday in St. Ann Church with Fr. Stephen Mondiek celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00pm Monday in the funeral home.
