Obituary

DEGENER, James Roy age 82 of Hamilton passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Tri-County Extended Care Center. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on September 20, 1934, the son of Roy and Lillian (House) Degener and was a graduate of the University of Louisville and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. James had been a Hamilton resident since 1967. Mr. Degener had worked as a social worker for Butler County Social Services and retired from Mercy Franciscan (Mt. Airy) and Fort Hamilton Hospitals. A member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, he helped with the Youth Group program, CYO, and QPAC. He was a member and past president of the Hamilton Kiwanis Club, and was a leader of the Badin KEY Club from 1968-1990. He served as board member for 20 years and was the secretary of the Hamilton CYO for 18 years, and he oversaw the CYO Boys Basketball Program.

He is survived by his close friend, Richard Gordon.
