Obituary

PENNINGTON, John H. age 83 of Hamilton, died Saturday March 14, 2009 at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 12, 1925 the son of Ira Ward and Florence (Berger) Pennington. John graduated from Hamilton High School in 1943 and later earned a Bachelor's Degree from Miami University. Mr. Pennington served in the US Army during WWII, with the Third Army (Tenth Armored Division) commanded by General George Patton and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. On January 13, 1951 in the 9th Street E.U.B Church he married Marjorie " Marge" Biehl and she preceded him in death on July 28, 2003. In 1986, he retired as Vice- president of Society Bank (formerly Citizens Bank) after twenty-eight years service. A member of Lindenwald United Methodist Church, John was a life member and past president of the Lindenwald Kiwanis Club of Hamilton. He also was a member of the Senior Citizen's Golf League, former advisor and member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at Miami University, Hughes Society of Miami University, life member of the V.F.W Campbell Guard Post # 1069, and Life member of the Hamilton, Ohio Lodge No. 93 B.P.O. Elks.

Survivors include two daughters and their spouses, Lynn and Mike Vereker, of Hamilton, Lisa and Dr. Paul Turgeon, of Canton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Kelly Vereker, Andrew, Nicholas, and Lucas Turgeon; a sister, Alice Hawthorne.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and by a sister, Jean Hooper.

The family wishes to express their thanks to Doctor's Gregory Savage and F. Thomas Jenike as well as the staff of Mercy Franciscan at Schroder Manor third floor, for the excellent care they provided.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am Thursday in the Lindenwald United Methodist Church, 3501 Pleasant Ave., followed by burial in Springhill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00pm Wednesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Memorials are suggested to the Kiwanis Club of Lindenwald, P.O.
