Obituary

RIEDEL, John "Jack", age 76, died at 2:00am, Sunday, July 6, 2008 at Mercy Franciscan at Schroder. John was born January 8, 1932, the son of Joseph M. and Agnes ( Brickner) Riedel, and attended St. Ann's, St. Joseph's, St. Mary's and Liberty Township Grade Schools. Jack graduated from Lemon Monroe High School in 1951 and attended Ohio State University and University of Cincinnati. On June 20, 1953, in St Stephen's Catholic Church, he married Rose Mary Schobin. Jack served in the Navel Reserves and United States Army. He retired from International Business Machines ( IBM) after 34 years of service. . A member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, he was an usher for many years, on Parish Council, a member of St. Peter's Athletic Commission, a Charter Member of the Hamilton CYO Football Board, as well as a lifetime member of Badin Catham Club.
John was an avid sports fan for Badin High. He enjoyed sailing, built his own sail boat, was a member of Hueston Sailing Assoc., and participated in many regattas. He was a member of Cinder Sniffers Steam Engine Club and was building his own engine. Jack enjoyed and restored old clocks and had a great interest in photography.

An extremely proud father, he loved his children more than life and each of his grandchildren had a special place in his heart. He and his wife had 55 years of happiness together and many good memories are left for their children.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Mary; four sons, Timothy, (Angie). of Lagrange, Ga.., Michael, (Bobbie) Columbus, Ohio, Richard, (Laura) Maderia, Ohio, Raymond, (Judy), Elyria, Ohio; his daughter, Theresa (Bill) Valerius of Hamilton, Ohio; sixteen Grandchildren: Tricia, Katie, Ben, Margaret, Sam, John, Greg, Anna, Debbie, Alicia, Matthew, Caroline. Danielle, Leah, Will and Diana; one brother, Don, (Lois) Riedel; a brother-in- law: Bob Baker; three Sisters-in-law, Betty Schobin, Julianna Fisher, and Helen Jean Hulshult, and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Baker.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30am Wednesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am Wednesday in St. Peter Church. Visitation will be from 7-9:00pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
