STANZAK, John J. Jr. age 90 of Hamilton died Saturday March 7, 2015 in University Hospital, West Chester. He was born in DuPont, Pennsylvania on July 2, 1924 the son of John J. and Anna (Green) Stanzak Sr. Mr. Stanzak served in the US Army, as a sergeant first class, during WWII in the European Theater. John was a first Lieutenant C.O. of a regimented combat team for immediate deployment during the Korean War. He had acted as Provost Marshall at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. John worked for Fisher Body Hamilton Plant for over thirty years, retiring in 1984. A member of St. Ann Church, he also was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Father Butler Council, V.F.W. 1069, the American Legion, L.O.O.M., and the Kentucky Colonel's. John along with a group of men started the Boy Scout Troop #907 and also acted as a scout master for the troop which produced six Eagle Scouts.
Survivors include, six children, James (Connie), Jeanne (Craig) Odaffer, Joseph (Kathleen), Mary Geyer, Peggy (Walt) Wilsman, and Michael (Kristine); fifteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, John W. Stanzak in 2011 and his former wife Elizabeth M. Stanzak in 2003; grandson, Jason Moore in 2013; and a son-in-law, Charles Geyer in 2004.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of University Hospital West Chester for the outstanding care they provided.
Prayers will be offered at 10:00am Saturday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am Saturday in St. Ann Church with Fr. Larry Tharp celebrant. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00pm Friday in the funeral Home. V.F.W services and K of C services will be at 7:00pm Friday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery.
