WILLARD, SR. John Thaddeus "Thad", 76, beloved husband of Maria Carlota (Waltherr), married 23 years and residing in Greenhills, OH since 1994, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016. He was born in Hamilton, OH, September 22, 1940, to Jack and Carol (Petzold) Willard.
Survivors include his wife Maria (Councilwoman, Village of Greenhills), sister, Patricia Willard, two sons; John T. Willard, Jr. and Charles E. Willard and granddaughter, Holly.
Thad was commissioned in 1963, served on active duty from 1967 to 1969 in Germany with the 5th USA Army Artillery Group Special Ammunition Support Command (SASCOM), part of Atomic Weapons Support Command (AWSCOM). He served one year with the 21st FLA ROCKETTEN BATTALION (LUFTWAFFE) and one year with the 1st Belgian Corps Artillery. As a Captain, his branch was Artillery and Air Defense Artillery. Transferring to JAG from 1969 to 1974, he served with the 135th JAG detachment in Sharonville, OH. The National Defense Service Medal was presented to Thad by Congressman Steve Chabot on July 16, 2007, an award and honor long overdue.
As a member of the Ohio and Butler County Bar Association, he was awarded a plaque designating his 50 years as a practicing attorney. He was a member of the Winton Woods Student Achievement Committee, the Greenhills American Legion, Greenhills Board of Zoning Appeals, Knights of Columbus (3rd and 4th degree) and a life member of St. Peter in Chains, Hamilton, OH. He attended Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church for 23 years.
