Julia Louise (Burkey) Baumann, age 87, of Hamilton, Ohio died January 12, 2019. She was born in Hamilton on March 9, 1931 to John J and Louise (Wessel) Burkey. She was educated at St Peter In Chains School and was 1949 graduate of Notre Dame High School. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Ohio State University in 1953.
On October 16, 1954 she married William A Baumann in St Peter In Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton. She had been the Assistant Editor of The Fisherman Magazine in Oxford, Ohio and was later employed at Jennings, Lindsay, and Reimer, West Side Federal, and Baden, Jones, Scheper, and Crehan, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church, the Rosary Altar Society of the church, St Peter's Resurrection Choir, Knights of Columbus 968 Ladies Auxiliary and the Hamilton Area Ostomy Support Group. In past years she had been very active in the Notre Dame High School Alumnae and the Friends of the Cincinnati Pops. She thoroughly enjoyed writing and through the years was involved in the production of many area newsletters.
Bill and Julia had three children; David A and his wife Deborah (Wolke) Baumann, John J Baumann, and Diana (Baumann) and her husband Gregory Vansuch. She leaves nine grandchildren, Aaron Baumann (Jessica), Daniel Baumann (Melinda), Justin Baumann (Julia), Jacob Baumann, Mary Sutton (Chris), Rebecca Hutchison (Eric), Maya Wurth (Jacob), Emma Vansuch, and Luke Vansuch as well as 7 great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Audrey Burkey Iarocci of Topsfield, Massachusetts and two beloved cousins, Marguerite Burkey Tegge and Mary Wessel Bachman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William, her son John, and a great grandson.
Visitation will be at 9 AM January 18, 2019 with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 10 AM at St Peter In Chains Church at 382 Liberty Avenue Hamilton, Ohio. Burial will follow at St Mary's Cemetery in Hamilton. Funeral has been arranged by Zettler Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St Peter in Chains Catholic Church or Badin High School.
