Karen Sue
Archdeacon
October 5, 1943 – April 12, 2024
Karen S. Archdeacon age 80 of Colerain Twp. Ohio passed away Friday April 12, 2024 at Ft. Hamilton
Hospital. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on October 5, 1943 the daughter of Wendell and Goldie
(Wehr) Posey.
Karen grew up in Riley. She played varsity basketball and graduated from Taft High School. She later
earned a nursing diploma from Mercy School of Nursing after which she began a long career as a
registered nurse (RN). She was an RN at Mercy North, Mercy South, Lebanon Correctional Institute, and
UC Health. Karen was a hardworking nurse who personified compassion, patience, and empathy. She
truly enjoyed her career from which she reluctantly retired in 2001.
Karen married Joseph G. Archdeacon on September 2, 1967 at St. Stephen Church. They had 7 children,
5 miscarriages, and a stillborn infant. They had 5 grandchildren. Karen said that she loved being
pregnant. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who thrived on bringing joy to
her family. She was sometimes a woman of few words, but those words were meaningful, and she was
an excellent listener. In the evening, she could often be found sitting in bed with one of her children by
her side, confiding. It was a coveted spot. Karen was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church,
followed by St. Peter In Chains Catholic Church, and most recently Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She
was a dedicated advocate for the protection of the unborn. A devotion which Karen and Joseph instilled
in their children. Karen especially enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren
and took great delight in visits with her grand puppy, Spike. She also enjoyed vacationing, especially to
the beach, family trips to the Elk's pool, movies, eating out, and having sweets well within reach. Karen
was always happiest surrounded by her husband and children, never wanting to be in a quiet, empty
home.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph; six children, Joseph John Archdeacon III, Brian (Lindsey)
Archdeacon, Marianne Linardos, Daniel Archdeacon, Kristen (Stephen) Schneider, and Craig Archdeacon;
five grandchildren, Caitlin, Joey, Peter, Anna Maria, and Elizabeth.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Archdeacon in 2021.
Prayers will be offered at 9:30am Thursday at the Zettler Funeral Home 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by
Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am Thursday at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Larry Tharp celebrant.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Mary
Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Right to Life of Greater Cincinnati, 1802 Galbraith Rd. Cincinnati,
Ohio 45239. Online register book
