Obituary

Schlemann, Lawrence W., age 88, died surrounded by family at Sunrise Hospice of Hamilton on May, 5 2007. He was born to Justina Cell and Lawrence C. Schlemann of Dayton, Ohio, on March 21, 1919. He graduated from Chaminade High School, Dayton, Ohio, and the Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1941. Larry enlisted in the army and served his country during WW II serving in North Africa, the Mediterranean and the invasion of South Europe. He held the rank of Captain and served as company commander in the Medical Corp under Generals Patton and Bradley. Larry bought Lindenwald drug store in 1951 and in 1958 opened the first drug store in Fairfield, The Fairfield Pharmacy. In June 1991 Mayor Wolpert issued a proclamation declaring Lawrence W. Schlemann Appreciation Days in honor of his 50 years of devotion to his community and customers. Larry was a long time member of the Butler County Pharmacy Association, the Ohio Pharmacist Association and Veterans Apothecary Association of Cincinnati. He was a past committee member of the Hamilton Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and a Life member of B.P.O Elks.

Larry loved his farm, where he resided until his death. He enjoyed being a gentleman farmer raising cattle and horses. He most loved hunting, fishing, golf, and his grandchildren, teaching them to fish. Larry was very active in catholic charities, the Y.M.C.A., and was on the Civic Advisory Board of Mercy Hospital. He was a member of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and was Vice Chairman of the drive to build Badin High School.

Larry was very devoted to his family. He is survived by 2 sons, Lawrence A. (Ann) Schlemann, M.D. of Kittery, ME, John E. Schlemann (fiancé, Linda Rivera) of Lexington Park, MD, and a special daughter Laura Anne (Donald) Brossart of Lakeside Park, KY. Also surviving is Faye (Schlemann) Baker, 2 stepdaughters, Regina Vaughn Hall of Cincinnati, and Valerie Vaughn Pryor of Austin, TX. Larry has 6 grandsons, Michael, Brian, Eric, David, and Jesse Schlemann, and Dylan Brossart. He has one granddaughter, Lindsay Brossart, who was the light of his life. One great grandson, Aaron Bush-Schlemann, and 5 step grandsons, Dennis, Adam, Ian and Ross Pryor, Charlie Hall, and one step granddaughter, Kathryn Linley. Larry loved people and will be greatly missed for his tender heart.

Funeral services will be Held at 11:00 am Thursday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Visitation will be from 5-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
