Obituary

DeFazio, Mabel L. age 80, of Hamilton, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006 at Vitas Hospice in Ft. Hamilton Hospital. She was born in Muncie, Indiana on Nov. 11, 1925, the daughter of Clarence and Flossie (Thomas) Mullen. On Dec. 22, 1945, she married Allison D. Harshbarger and he preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1969. She later married John V. DeFazio on Aug. 23, 1971. Mrs. DeFazio had worked as a cook for the Hamilton City Schools for eight years. A member of St. Peter in Chains Church and the Altar Rosary society, she also was a lay distributor, Eucharistic minister to Ft. Hamilton Hospital, and actively participated with prayer groups with the church. She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and showed much love to all of them.

Survivors include her husband, John; five stepson, Michael J., Dr. John Jr., James E., Dr. Daniel L., and Robert G. DeFazio; three step daughters, Marianne Marsh, Rita DeFazio, and Nancy Brancheau; sixteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; two brothers; Harry and Richard Mullen.

Besides her first husband; she was also preceded by a sister, Virginia Harmon; a brother Clarence Mullen.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Nurses of Ft. Hamilton Hospital and Vitas Hospice, and Doctor's Davin and Weisenberger, as well as parish members who sent cards of encouragement during Mabel's illness. Special thanks to Brenda Cox for the care she provided in the home, and at the hospital.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30AM Thursday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM Thursday in St. Peter Church. Visitation will be from 6-8:00PM Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Vitas Hospice, Badin High School, or St. Peter Church.
