Sister Marie Joseph de l'Assumption, Little Sisters of the Poor, died March 27, 2022, in Caen, France.
She was born Mary Catherine Ulm on May 23, 1920, to Carl and Carrie (Falk) Ulm in Hamilton, Ohio. Mary enlisted in the Army on September 1, 1943. She was a member of the Women's Army Corp (WAC) in Northern France. Mary received an honorable discharge on November 14, 1946. In April 1950, she joined the Little Sisters of the Poor in Cincinnati. Upon completing her vows in 1952, she was sent to Northern France, where she spent the last 70 years.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers John Ulm and Paul (Thelma) Ulm, five sisters Patricia Ulm, Ruth (Frank) Jost, Helen (Ralph) Bendix, Nettie (Fred) Schneider, and Betty Ulm. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thank you to her great niece Dana and her husband Jon Kovach for keeping family and friends informed of Sr. Mary's activities. Our gratitude to great nephew Steve Landrum for attending Sr. Mary's funeral in Caen, France.
A Memorial Mass will be held April 30, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Ann's Church, 3028 Pleasant Avenue, Hamilton, Ohio.
