Obituary

SCHMIDT, Richard H. "Dick", age 69, a longtime resident of Lindenwald, currently residing in Springfield TWP, died Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in Hospice of Hamilton in Sunrise assisted Living Center. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on April 3, 1938, the son of Helmut and Mildred (Osborne) Schmidt, was a 1956 graduate of Fairfield High School and attended Ohio State University as well as Miami University. On July 16, 1960 in St. John Vianney Church, he married Barbara Vorwerck. He owned and operated a Pepperidge Farms franchise and was a driver, supervisor, and customer service representative for ARA Services until retirement. An active and devote member of St. Ann Catholic Church, in Lindenwald, he was a lecture, usher, member of the PAC and the Rosary Society. Dick was an avid sports enthusiast and Baseball Heaven attendee; he passed his skills and enthusiasm to his children, as well as all he coached in Lindenwald Little League, soccer, and CYO basketball. Skill and sportsmanship were everything. He is fondly remembered as the voice of the Badin Rams. The Dick Schmidt Broadcasting Booth at the CYO football field, in Joyce Park, honors him for his years as an announcer. He made sure to announce children's names to encourage their effort. He was also associated with the early local sports casting on WOXR, WMOH, WCFN, and is nominated for the Butler County Sports Hall of Fame. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and new dear friends at Stone Bridge, Winton Woods.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; six children, Elizabeth (Paul) Hegedus, Amy (John) Engle, Martin (Amy) Schmidt, Megan (Kevin) Stone, Michael (Andrea) Schmidt, and Jo Ellen (Andy) Miller; thirteen grandchildren, Eric and Abby Hegedus, Jake and Katie Engle, Corey and Kyle Schmidt, Simon, Nate and Elizabeth Stone, Gabrielle and Vaughn Schmidt, Mikayla and Sean Miller; a sister, Julie (Robert) Stinson; a nephew, Michael Stinson.

Prayers will be offered at 10:30am Monday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave., followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am Monday in St. Ann Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8:00pm Sunday in the funeral home.
