SCHUTTE, Richard A. age 88 of Fairfield passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at Mercy Hospital in Fairfield. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on March 4, 1929, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Lehmann) Schutte and was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. On January 23, 1954, in St. Mary Church in Hamilton, he married Thelma Marie Harmon and she preceded him in death on February 17, 2013. Mr. Schutte worked in marketing and human resources, employed by First Financial Bank for 13 years retiring in 1987. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, being involved in St. Vincent de Paul Society, as a lay distributor, and other church activities. Richard sponsored the organization Volunteers Providing Free Foot Care.
Survivors include four daughters, Diane (Doug) Hodapp of Beavercreek, Terri (Greg) Dahlem of Cincinnati, Madonna (Joseph) Lackney of Akron, and Nancy (Mark) Curry of Cincinnati; eleven grandchildren, Michael (Liz) Hodapp, Tim (Lauren) Hodapp, Laura (Drew) Hall, Chris (Amanda) Hodapp, Justin (Kelly) Dahlem, Caroline (Tyler) Wallace, Lisa Lackney, Anne Lackney, Katy Curry, Erin Curry, and Kyna Wilson; and seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Enzweiler; a brother, Paul Schutte; his companion, Alberta Wirsch.
Besides his wife, Thelma, he was also preceded in death by two sons, Mark David and Gregory Richard Schutte; three brothers, Elmer, Robert, and Bernard Schutte; four sisters, Evelyn Williams, Helen Schutte, Sister Julie Marie Schutte SND, and Sister Mary Elizabeth Schutte SND.
Prayers will be offered at 10:30am on Monday, January 29, 2018 in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Larry Tharp and Fr. Jim Schutte celebrants. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Sunday, January 28, 2018, in the funeral home.
