Obituary

VANCE, Richard L. age 82 formerly of Fairfield, Ohio currently residing in Acworth, Georgia passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at Dogwood Forest of Acworth. He was born in Hillsboro, Ohio on June 7, 1934, son of James and Eleanor (Dick) Vance and was a veteran of the United States Army, where he played in the Army's band. He attended Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati where he graduated. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and played in the Ohio State Marching Band while he attended the university. On August 22, 1959, he married Betty Jo Roush and she preceded him on December 29, 2009. Mr. Vance worked as a salesman for Avery Dennison for over twenty years. He was a secretary for Kiwanis for many years, volunteered for the Open Door Pantry, Friends of the Hamilton-Fairfield Lane Library, sang in the Hamilton-Fairfield Chorale, and was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Hamilton.

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Ellen (Steve) Elliott of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren, Taylor Vance, Chandler Vance, Barrett Vance, Vance Elliott and Leah Jane Elliott; a twin brother, Ralph A. Vance of Hillsboro, Ohio; many nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife, Betty Jo, he was also preceded in death by a son, R. Roush Vance on June 30, 2016.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00am Friday in The Presbyterian Church, 23 South Front Street, with Dr. John Lewis officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8:00PM Thursday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Burial will be in Hillsboro, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hamilton Open Door Pantry 800 S. Front St. Hamilton, OH 45011 or the Friends of the Hamilton-Fairfield Lane Library 1396 University Blvd. Hamilton, OH 45011. Online register book is available at www.zettlerfuneralhome.com
