Ampulski
September 22, 1942 – June 27, 2024
Robert Stanley Ampulski, 81, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, on Thursday, June 27th, 2024. He was born September 22, 1942, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of late Stanley and Lucille Ampulski. He was the oldest of 7 siblings. On August 7, 1965, he married Barbara Czachorski.
Dr. Robert (Bob) Ampulski was a 1964 graduate of Aquinas College. He earned his Master of Science (MS) in Chemistry from Marquette University. Bob joined Proctor & Gamble's Corporate Technology Division in 1972 after receiving his PhD in Physical Chemistry from Florida State University. Following a series of assignments as a mass spectroscopist in the area of solar energy storage and catalysis, he moved to Paper Product Development (tissue/towel/facial business) as a Research Fellow, R&D Scientist. Bob retired in 2007 and was a globally recognized expert for his understanding of chemical and structural influences on tissue softness. He was sought after as a resource on fiber physics and the physical characterization of tissue webs and earned patents for his inventions during his tenure with The Procter & Gamble Company. Bob enjoyed consulting post-retirement.
Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife and had many hobbies, trains, fishing, cross-country skiing, photography, playing the accordion and woodworking. He was a member of the Greater Cincinnati Garden Railway Society (past officer from 2012-2016), The BierBand, Jack Frost Accordion Band, former WOBO radio host for a polka segment, an involved member and usher for Sacred Heart Church, and a member of Father Roettele Knights of Columbus, #8115, among others.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara Czachorski Ampulski. His 3 daughters Sheri (Jim) Terbovich, Staci (Sean) Jarvis, and Gina (Kevin) Nilsson; 9 grandchildren, Morgan, Danielle, Rachel, Alec Terbovich, Zack, Tori, Kennedy Jarvis, Aidan, Corey Nilsson; brothers, Gary, Jim, Tim Ampulski, sister, Janice (Steve) Wilson, and brothers-in-law Thomas Jarvis, Robert (Connie) Czachorski and many special nieces and nephews.
Dr. Ampulski was preceded in death by his infant sister Jackie Lu, brother and sister-in-law, Larry (Jan) Ampulski; Sister-in-law, Patricia Jarvis.
A special thank you to Hospice of Hamilton (an affiliate of Hospice of Cincinnati) especially his nurse Leah, aides Vanessa and Janelle; his support team, Margie and Missy; in-home caretakers, Cecilia and Marcia; neighbors and close friends for their love and support over the past 18 months.
Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 2nd, 2024 in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Prayers will be offered at 9:30AM Wednesday, July 3rd in the Zettler Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church, Fairfield, Ohio, with Fr. Larry Tharp Celebrant. Burial will followed with a committal service in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Hamilton, Ohio.
