Goertemiller, Robert Edward ("Goerte") age 85 of Hamilton, US Navy veteran and proud father, passed away on October 12, 2012 at Elizabeth Scott Retirement Community in Maumee, Ohio, surrounded by his family.
Born on April 7, 1927 to Stanley and Helen Goertemiller, Goerte was a beloved husband of 49 years to Rosalie, his wife who preceded him in death, a devoted father, a devout member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church, and a friend and colleague to all who met him.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Goertemiller, and his brother-in-law, William (Barney) Barnhorn. He is survived by his son, Joseph Goertemiller (Julia), his daughter, Dr. Catherine Goertemiller Carrigan, MD (Martin), brother William (Marie), sister Charlene Barnhorn and sister in law Bernadine, and brother-in-law, Ralph Hull. He has four grandchildren Cliff, Clay, and Hannah Goertemiller and Mary Carrigan.
Bob graduated from Hamilton Catholic High School in 1945 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served as a motor machinist mate on the U.S.S. Cable in the Pacific theater. He attended the University of Cincinnati Evening College in mechanical engineering and worked from 1955 until his retirement in 1999 as a sales and branch manager for Bearings, Inc.
He was a life-long member of St.Veronica's Catholic Church, later St. Julie Billiart, and he was proud of his work conducting the Bingo games for the church. Goerte was a member of the Father Butler Council of the Knights of Columbus. Generous and helpful as a part of his upbringing, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Family wishes to thank the caregivers at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton and the Elizabeth Scott Community in Toledo for their concern and care for him.
Prayers will be offered at 9:30 am Wednesday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am Wednesday in St. Julie Billiart Church. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Friends and family may call from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, October 16 in the funeral home.
