Obituary

Thornton, Rosalind E. (Roz), age 92 died Sunday March 13, 2011, at Ft. Hamilton Hospital. She was born in Lima, Ohio on December 22, 1918. She was the daughter of John and Freda (Gardner) Flesh and was a 1936 graduate of Waite High School in Toledo, Ohio. In 1946, Rosalind and her husband moved to southwest Ohio settling in Hamilton. In the 1950's Roz developed an interest in archery and became a member of Cincinnati women's archery team. In 1956 she won the Women's indoor archery championship. Roz was a self taught artist winning numerous awards for her paintings. She loved exhibiting and selling her paintings in the tri-state area. .She was a charter member, past president and historian for the Brush and Easel Club. She was also known for Lyle's Famous Fudge which she sold in McGonigle. Roz was married to Lyle Thornton for 52 years and he preceded her in death on June 7, 1991.
Survivors include her son, Lyle Thornton II of Phoenix, AZ; her daughter, Kathy (Robert) Ward of Hamilton and Jerry McKinney of Michigan who she thought of as a son; three grandchildren, Stephen Ward, Natalie Ward both of Hamilton, Erica Crossland of San Diego, CA.

Funeral services will be held at 10am Monday in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. with Rev. Alex Mandura officiating, followed by burial in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5-7pm Sunday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Animal Friends Humane Society because of her love for cats and dogs.
