SCHAWANN, Ruth Baum, 92, formerly of Hamilton, resident of Christian Village at Mason, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2016. She was born on July 15, 1924, in Aurora, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Marie (Urich) Baum. She grew up in Hamilton, where she attended Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1942. She was employed by Hamilton Tool and JC Penney's. On June 27, 1953 she married Robert Schawann, and they raised three children together. She loved being a mother, cooking and gardening. She was a life-long member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. In later years, Ruth and Bob enjoyed traveling across the U.S. to attend Bob's WWII 66th Army Airdrome reunions, creating long-standing friendships with these fellow veterans and their spouses. Ruth was a loving mother and grandmother and was known around The Village for her beautiful smile and cheerful attitude.
Ruth is survived by her children, Connie (Scott) Lindsay and Rob Schawann; grandchildren Bryce (Claire) Lindsay, Sara Lindsay of Denver, CO, and Niki Fox; great-granddaughters, McKenzie and Kylee Baumgardner; nephew, Dr. Larry (Linda) Baum; niece Cheryl (Greg) Poe and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers Robert and Arthur Baum, and a daughter, Karen Sue Fox.
The family would like to thank Christian Village at Mason and VITAS Hospice for the exceptionally loving and compassionate care they provided Ruth.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Christian Village at Mason, Hockley Chapel, 411 Western Row Rd., Mason, Ohio with Pastor Kevin Jud officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
