Obituary

SMITH, Scott Wesley age 62 formerly of Hamilton, Ohio currently residing in Atlanta, Georgia died Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his home. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on June 13, 1950, the son of Gordon and Margaret "Eileen" (Overholts) Smith, and was a 1968 graduate of Garfield High School. Scott attended and received degrees math and physics from Bowling Green University (BS), Purdue (MS), and the University of California at Berkeley (Doctor of Optometry). He worked for Rockwell International Minute Man Missile Program, General Dynamics and designed progressive power lenses for American Optical, Tejin Chemical, and Scopus Optical, including a patent for a progressive power lens that he designed. Most recently, Dr. Smith practiced optometry in Atlanta, Georgia and continued
his work as a lens designer. On June 2, 1985 in Los Angeles, California, he married Dr. Suzanne Nylander, a classmate from U.C. Berkeley.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne; his father, Gordon Smith; a sister, Diane (Dan) White; a niece, Abbie (Jeff) Blume; two cousins, Eric "Ric" Overholts and Monica "Connell" Smith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Eileen Smith on July 20, 2009.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Friday (August 10th) in the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. with Rev. Edwin R. Beck officiating, followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery.
