MATHEWS, Stephen L. age 63 of Fairfield died Thursday, September 2, 2010, at his residence. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 28, 1946, the son of William L. and Mary E. (Maybury) Mathews. A 1965 graduate of Taft High School, he also earned a B.S degree in 1969 from Miami University and a Masters Degree from Xavier University in 1974. On April 17, 1971 in the First United Presbyterian Church he married Debarah Minnich. Steve was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Lindenwald Kiwanis. He had been Administrative Director of Business and Planning for the Hamilton City School District from 1972-1993 and currently was Business Manager for the Winton Woods City Schools. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren and extended family participate in sporting events.

Survivors include his wife Debby; his father, William; three children, Jon (Jenn) of Fairfield Township, Jeff (Andrea), Jill (Ryan) Huff, both of Fairfield; eight grandchildren, Wil, Sam, Owen, Maura, and Abby Mathews, Meghan, Nicholas, and Molly Huff; nine sisters and brothers, Sandy Deboo, Betty Miller, Karen Fowler, Marcia Retherford, Jerry Mathews, Diane Howell, Tom Mathews, Rich Mathews, and Chris Pater; twenty-four nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Prayers will be offered at 9:30 am Tuesday in the Zettler Funeral Home 2646 Pleasant Ave. Followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Larry Tharp celebrant. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8:00pm Monday in the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Cincinnati or the Stephen L.
