Steven Richard
Greenup
April 23, 1955 – November 4, 2025
Steven R. Greenup Sr. age 70 of Kettering, Ohio, was called home to be with the Lord
on Tuesday November 4, 2025, at Hospice of Dayton. Steve was born in Hamilton, Ohio
on April 23, 1955, to his loving parents, the late Cecil and Betty (Cearley) Greenup. On
November 10, 1990, he married Julie A. Jackson in Gig Harbor, WA – they were
blessed with 35 wonderful years together.
Steve began working as a stocker at IGA as a young man and moved on to become a
maintenance mechanic at Rikes Department Store in the 1970s. He often told others
he was the one assigned to turn off the lights on every floor. Steve loved his job at Rikes
and would reminisce about it often. After the store's closing in December of 1991,
Steve obtained a paralegal degree from Sinclair Community College. Later he reentered
the maintenance mechanical field at Wright State University. After a back injury in 2003,
he was forced to retire on disability.
Steve loved everything to do with transportation, ranging from trolley cars, especially the
Cincinnati Lake Erie, trains, airplanes, tanks and cars. Browsing through museums,
bookstores, and swap meets were a favorite pastime with his wife Julie. He also loved
Biblical research, genealogy and engaging in friendly debates. His vast reading library
attests to his great love of books and research.
Steve leaves behind his loving wife, caretaker and partner in life, Julie; 2 children,
Steven R. (Kim) Greenup Jr. and Heather Greenup-Collini; a stepchild, Erin (Tobias)
Jackson Reames; a grandchild, Brianna Fugate; a sister, Deborah (Steven) McDaniels;
a brother Gene (Jennifer) Greenup; Dear friend and cousin, Stew Cearley; 2 Brothers-in-
law, Jim Jackson and Mark Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Joyce Shortt; his
beloved grandmother Mildred Cearley; 2 brothers, Mark Gordon and Gerry Greenup; his
uncle Bill Cearley; cousin, Chuck Cearley and his four legged best friend Bert.
Steve would like to be remembered as a servant of Jesus Christ who has now gone to
be with his Lord and Savior and dearly departed family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am-12pm on Tuesday November 11, 2025 at
the Zettler Funeral Home, 2646 Pleasant Ave. Hamilton, OH. Followed by a funeral
service at 12pm. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of gifts
please make a donation to Hospice of Dayton in Steve's name.
